Extreme Chafing - Psoriasis [Busey Teeth CDr - 2014]When one thinks of walled noise, they don’t normally think of types of skin disease- but that’s exactly the theme/ focus of this five track CDR. Extreme Chafing is another project from Florida based Joe The Stache whose known for a few quirk themed walled noise projects such as: Hoggle( based around 80’s puppet fantasy family movie The Labyrinth), Pig Shrapnel (based around pork products & their preparation), and Heavy Metal Vomit Party(which sees classic 1980’s hair/glam metal fare, converted into a dense, searing, truly overloaded & intense walled noise). The particular skin disease this release is based around is Psoriasis- a common, chronic, relapsing/remitting, immune-mediated systemic disease characterized by skin lesions including red, scaly patches, papules, and plaques, which usually itch. The skin lesions seen in psoriasis may vary in severity from minor localized patches to complete body coverage, and the releases case takes magnified pictures of purple, red & white patterns of psoriasis. Opening up the release is “Guttate Psoriasis”, and this is the longest track here at the 11.20 mark. The tracks ‘wall’ is built around a fairly fixed & dense matt of rushing textures & liquid bubbling/ boiling low to mid range tones- the whole thing has a rather urgent & yet oddly exhilarating feel to it, and it certainly makes sure you are wide awake.
Track number two comes in the form of “Pustular Psoriasis”, and this is the shortest track here at just over the two minute mark. This is built around a rushing dense base of lower-to-mid range noise- this ever so often is seared by swirls of mid-to-high pitched psychedelic noise scaping. Track three is entitled “Drug-Induced Psoriasis”, and this comes in at the 8.23 mark. This ‘wall’ is a built around several layers of similar pitched rushing & churning tones- these are weaved together to create an almost complete noise white-out. Track four comes in four comes in the form of "Inverse Psoriasis", which just slides in under the 10 minute mark. And this track brings together similar toned rushing textural dense-ness, which ever so often seared by high pitch noise twists & bays. Lastly for track five we have "Psoriasis Vulgaris"- which comes in at 5. 23 mark. And this brings together a fixed almost rhythmic galloping set-ness, with dense sways of rush lower-to-mid range. So in summing this release offers up five tracks worth of often hellishly dense & tonally similar noise making which is seared from time to time by higher & at times psychedelic noise matter. Sure it’s not the most varied sounding of walled noise release, but it’s often exhilarating searing in it’s attack. Roger Batty
