Die Reitenden Leichen - F.O.A.D [Breaching Static - 2013]"F.O.A.D" finds this German HNW act offering up half- an-hours worth of dense yet subtle layer shifting grey ‘n’ pained walled noise. The release comes in the form of a CDR release that appeared in February 2013 & was ltd to just 20 copies. The ‘wall’ starts out with a swarming & hazed mixture of the following tones: A low down & blurred fixed billowing, looped lines of thin grey rain like static fuzz, and a distant yet piercing fixed single mid-range tone hissing. The whole thing creates a very effective oppressive & airless vibe, which to me brings to mind walking through a endless nocturnal hospital ward- that’s filled with dead or half dead patents that a slowly been feasted on by amassed clouds of tinny black flies. Around the six & a half minute mark the hissing tone seems to move up a few runs and becomes more piercing, which of course intensifying the track atmosphere. At around the eight & a half minute mark a slowly circling ‘n’ scouring tone starts off, and you really feel like the whole thing is pressing in on you more & more. The rest of the track finds more layers of thin textural elements added, or subtle shifting with the layers to create this intensify yet damn entrancing vibe to the track. "F.O.A.D" offers up a subtle build & slow intensifying slice of murky & hazed walled noise. I guess you could say to start with this has an almost pressing & taut ANW feel to it, but as the layers build up & up this becomes a wonderful conceived & though-out piece of searing yet airless HNW.
