[Untitled] - IV [Breaching Static - 2011]“IV” offers up a weathered & primal slab of walled noise meets brutal drone with touches of ANW. The [untitled] of course brings together Richard Ramirez & Sean E. Matzus. The CDR comes in a black crape paper sleeve that has stuck on it's front outside a violent looking Abstract expressionistic painting, which features slashed ‘n’ slightly splattered lines of red, yellow & purple paint - the release doesn’t indicate who did the painting, but I suspect it’s by Mr Ramirez himself- as he’s been painting similar works since the late 1980’s, anyway who ever painted it- it nicely fits the raging primal sonic ‘wall’ with-in. The release offers up one long untitled track that comes in at the 45.24 mark. The ‘wall’ is built around a constantly battering drone- this sound like it could be a warped and distant recording of some form of battering steel work. On top of this main tone is a constantly skipping ‘n’ grey quite thin static grain. Togeather the two elements make a bleak, draining & battering attack. To start with it seems like the ‘wall’ is completely unmoving & unforgiving, but over time the two key elements seem to start to subtle shift there places back & forth in the tracks sonic field- of course this could all be a sonic illusions. Also another thing that seems to happen as the ‘wall’ goes on is the battering drone seems to start to melt ‘n’ smooth back around it’s edges, and of course this is where one can hear traces of ANW. This ‘wall’ mangers to set your mind in quite a stark yet hypnotic state, and it keeps you hooked through-out it’s just over forty five minute ran time So “IV” is another bleak & primal atmospheric slice of droning & pummelling wall making from this Texas based pair. This is well worth a look if you’ve enjoyed the projects other releases, or if your after some walled noise that’s has a more mysterious & elemental feel to it. Roger Batty
