I watched You Die - In Darkness [Breaching Static - 2011]“In Darkness” offers up a single just under 25 minutes worth of head pummelling ‘n’ gut hitting low end ‘n’ crunchy based HNW. This is the second release from this relatively new project of US HNW scene veteran Alex Nowacki whose also in the other following HNW projects Boar, Centeries Behind The Gate & Phantom Rib. The cdr comes in a similar packaging to the first IWYD release- a black crape paper cd slip sleeve that features a pasted on macabre & murky picture of huge looming figure coming out of the darkness with it’s face hidden from view by hair & lo-fi like photo-copier like effects. The track opens with a sudden short burn of harsh grained static-coming from first one speacker/ head phone & then the other. Then we’re into the ‘wall’ it’s self which finds Nowacki creating a fairly standard yet entrancing mixture of quite pacey & urgent locked juddering ‘n’ jittering noise with a nice crunchy & purring low end focus to it. The ‘wall’ gives one the feel that there been slowly but surely wrapped or cocoon in layers upon layers of meaty juddering noise tone. All told this is nice and meaty low end slice of HNW matter, and if you enjoyed the first IWYD release you’ll very much enjoy this too. Roger Batty
