Avmakt - Eitre [Suprematist Records - 2010]Avmakt is the latest’s project from one of the prolific and quality bound artists in working in the European noise scene today; Andreas Brandal whose also in Flesh coffin, Hour Of the Wolf, Drevne Bolesti, and Museums of Sleep. This new project is a quite atmospheric lined take on HNW with some subtle junk metal textures & dramatic/ dark noise moments. “Eitre” is the second release by this new project and it appears on this new Serbia based label. The CDR comes packaged in a tracing art paper sleeve, and features a drawing of deformed long necked monster vomiting up pile of black sludge- this rather brings to mind a crude & monochrome take on the creature from Francis Bacon’s 1944 Triptych painting. Sonically on offer here is one long thirty three minute track, which starts out with some subtle shifting, sinister junk metal textures & improv like movement. Then pretty soon it slides into a thick ‘wall’ of roasting and galloping noise that’s underfed by eerier noise movement and fairly subdued junk metal matter. The remainder of the track sees Brandal dramatically shifting between different grains of ‘walled matter’ with atmospheric sound currents running through them, and slight dips into more creepy/ stripped improv like moments too- but for the most part this is very thick 'n' brutal Avmakt is a project that’s trying to put a different/more dramatic or atmospheric spin on the art of wall making. And with “Eitre” Brandal offers up a very worthy and well thought-out piece of shifting and edgy brutality. Go get it while you still can! Roger Batty
