Miss Autopsy - The Hill [Lens Records - 2008]Miss Autopsy make bitter, murderous, bad feeling and often awkward sounding mix of unwell pop music, droning organs, jagged/sparse indie and wondering punked folk music. I guess the best comparison would be a more barren/ bittered and awkward cousin of the Paper Chase. The songs are usually stripped down, painful grey and shivering in cold bath stark. Made up of either droning organ harmonic gloom, jagged strutting in painful high heels indie punk, barely moving bass and acoustic sombre bluesy melodies, strummed unwell punked folk wooziness. All over hung by singers Steve Beyerink whiney, suicidal and drained tones that sit somewhere between a near the nose Feargal Sharkey, American indie/ folk bitterness and damned preacher. The lyrics fix on the bleak more pained side of life going from; deeply paranoid sociopath rants, to murderous, killer ready and kidnapping taking sing alongs. The lyrics never become too grotesque or violent, which in away makes this more un-nerving and disturbing as you read in you own sickened leanings and meanings into them. An effective grim and weeping sore of an rock/ pop album thats heavy with bad feeling, murderous plans and general dislike of human kind. Highly conducive when in the right frame of mind, just don’t play it when your feeling too low or suicidal it may just knock you over the edge. Roger Batty
