Ov - Noctilucent Valleys [Soft Aduse - 2007]Noctilucent Valleys submerges the listener in heady and psychedelic world made up of synth drone craft, lo-grade electro beatscapes, free form folk/ improvised rock traces , with the odd touches of dreamy & hazed of male & female vocals here and there. The project consists San Francisco based husband and wife team Christine Boepple and Loren Chasse, whom have been involved with the likes of Jewelled Antler Collective, Thuja, Of, etc. This really hums of that oddly comforting retro world of the 70’s psychedelic scapes that the likes of Boards of Canada have created, but not sound wise but in mood. From the outset you feel you’ve been dropped into a strange dreamy world that’s soothing yet dusty, like finding old photos or possessions of your parents in the loft. The instrumental colours are always hazy and slightly out of focus as they paint their melodic paths and harmonic drifts. There’s very little threatening or dark here, this easers and loosen the soul with it’s gentle yet sometimes awkward progression, like a boat trip along a summertime river- you get slight stuck in weeds ever so offten, but somehow it adds to the experience- never bringing stress or anger, just stoned intrigue and wonder. A very sweet and hazy psychedelic trip that lowers you into a peaceful and warming audio world, that you could seemly drifting on and on in for hours on end. So let Ov guide and soar you dreamly over and under their Noctilucent Valleys and into a clamed and stoned state. Roger Batty
